Do it for Dom: Climbing Mount Snowdon

We have stepped away from homelessness for a moment to support a friend of Fine & Country who is battling Huntington’s disease.

Dominic Subbiani from Fine & Country Pembrokeshire has been part of the Fine & Country family for eight years. He is an energetic, lovely and warm man who has been given devastating news.

Dom inherited Huntington’s disease which attacks and kills brain cells. The neurodegenerative disease effects movements, behaviour and memory until eventually, it is fatal. Patients sadly die around 10 to 20 years after symptoms start. It has been described as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and Motor Neurone Disease put together. At present, there is no cure for Huntington’s disease, nor can its progress be reversed or slowed.

However, researchers from Huntington’s Disease Association and the University College London made an immense breakthrough in December 2017. An experimental drug, injected into spinal fluid, safely lowered levels of toxic proteins in the brain. For the first time, there is now hope that the deadly disease can be stopped.

Huntington’s generally affects people in their prime, 30s and 40s. About 8,500 people in the UK have Huntington’s and a further 25,000 will develop it when they are older. With your help, we can put an end to this awful disease.
